Mission:

Ducks in a Row Human Services Inc. develops health and human services programs and leads research which supports evidence based practices to address the social determinants of health, health disparities, and positively influence health equity outcomes.

Vision:

Health systems work cohesively to provide equitable outcomes for all members of specialized, vulnerable and underserved populations.

Goals:

1. Reduce health disparities by addressing the multiple social determinants of health, thus resulting in outcomes which contribute to health equity.

2. Increase opportunities for economic mobility for economically disadvantaged individuals and small businesses.

3. Provide opportunities to be holistically healthy which includes education about and access to healthier food options, mental health support and fitness activities.

4. Bridge the gap between community members of color and their local and federal government offices in order to advance advocacy and justice with communities of color.

We Provide Wrap - Around Mental Health Support

Founded by Shaheen Johnson of Aurora CO – within this program, communities of color are able to address their mental health concerns in safe space by being able to have their concerns addressed anonymously.

Mental Health First Aid Courses – Offer MHFA to individuals/ orgs on a quarterly basis

Color Collaborative Referrals – Referrals to the Color Collaborative mental health providers

Wisdom Circle – Provides mental health support for seniors and teenagers

We Address the Social Determinants of Health, Health Disparities and Health Equity

Copayment for Seniors – Pays copayments for seniors (65+) for specialty providers

Last Mile Transportation for Seniors to Doctors’ Appointments – Transports seniors (65+) to the last mile of their doctors’ appointments

40 day Vegan/Vegetarian Kick Starter – 40 days to a healthier lifestyle

We Advance Advocacy and Justice with Communities of Color

As an alumni of the 2022 – Congressional Black Caucus Initiative and a member of the 2024 Boettcher Foundation Leadership Practitioners Collaborative, Dr. Duran works with historically underserved community members and teaches them to effectively participate in civic engagement processes with local, state and federal government officials.

We Provide Navigation Services

Ducks in a Row Human Services Inc – is a certified City and County of Denver Human Services Community Partner Agency, thus can assist you with determining your eligibility, enrolling and navigating programs such as: TANF, SNAP/Food Assistance, Medicaid, Child Health Plan plus, Fatherhood and Parenthood Program navigation, LEAP, Burial Assistance, Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), Veterans Services, IDDEAS-Denver Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Equitable Access to services program, Foster and Kinship care and other human services programs.

We Conduct Research and Analysis Projects and Consult for Organizations

Research and Analysis – Awarded Qualitative Dissertation of the Year in 2020 by Ashford University, Dr. Duran has over 10 years of research experience to assist any research project

Latest Project:

Led by Principal Investigator Genene L. Duran, PhD, MHA, CPH, The Black Community Health Assessment (BCHA) is an analysis of health barriers, access and equity for our Black community in the Denver metropolitan area and is being supported by research partners in the Social Work Department at The College of Health and Human Services at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Denver Health Health Equity Department and the Colorado Health Institute.

About Us

Ducks in a Row Human Services Inc. was established in 2015 to provide economic mobility services including resumes, cover letters, business plans and soft skills training to BIPOC community members in Far Northeast, Denver, Colorado. Since that time, Ducks in a Row Human Services Inc. (previously known as Ducks In a Row Public Relations and Event Planning) has worked with such notable clients as the Colorado Public Health Association, CU Anshutz, The Conflict Center, Teach For America Colorado, Denver Public Schools, Colorado Health Network, Building Bridges, the City of Brighton, Colorado, Vicente Sederberg LLP, and Womxn’s March Denver to name a few. In part, projects have included capacity building, strategic planning, professional development, DEI training, retreat facilitation, board development, community assessment and community programming.

In 2025, Ducks in a Row Human Services Inc. was one of three nonprofit organizations highlighted at the City and County of Denver Mayor Mike Johnston and the Denver African American Commission’s 2025 Black History Month celebration, and one of 60 Black led organizations/individuals which received the 2025 Black History Month leadership proclamation from City and County of Denver City Councilwoman Shontel Lewis and City Councilman Darrell Watson.
